Mini Workshop with HELEN MacRITCHIE

Materials for the mini make item will be provided.

Helen is a textile artist based in the UK, exhibiting in the UK and Sydney, Australia.

She concentrates upon the detail found in nature and the landscape recreating the impressions and feelings these evoke through contemporary abstract representation,. Texture, colour and visual design are significant to the interaction with her audience. The textile interpretation of a subject offers further artistic opportunity to involve sensory awareness – the work is both tactile and visually stimulating.

Nigel Cheney - Unravelling the Archive

Nigel will take you through an overview of the creative journey of his work so far with stitch. He finds the traditional techniques of simple hand stitch a basis for mindfulness and creative expression. Producing work that deals with memory and narrative, he exploits fabric collages to convey complex visual metaphors and plays upon literature, history and fables. By exploring the tensions between the handmade and digital technologies he is constantly striving to unravel the stories inherent in the many archives he refers to. These often use the natural world as a key reference point.
